I came upon the book in a wonderful bookstore in Ashville, named Battery Park Book Exchange, and I knew immediately that I would somehow incorporate the art into my mural.Mark D. But at least he left magnificent work to be admired through the ages. Popes have a lot to answer for. I hope they eventually did - if you get my meaning. But at the same time, without them as patrons of the arts, would we have all the splendid art we still have today? It's a conundrum.Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-148647148793397155.post-92025284515028003262015-03-20T20:37:13.193-04:002015-03-20T20:37:13.193-04:00Hello, Barbara,

It's a wonderful blend of idealized antiquity, mythology, and pure decoration.Mark D. Carracci first came to my notice when the Cleveland Museum of Art acquired his odd and enigmatic painting "Boy Drinking" and sponsored lectures on Carracci's works and on that specific painting, which features looking through glass and liquid, (as does the bean-eater painting you illustrate above).

http://www.clevelandart.org/art/1994.4?collection_search_query=carracci&op=search&form_build_id=form-TNIQT0MT4KrYWP4OxDFl_Z_XBZsSu0tWQhThgqzyY58&form_id=clevelandart_collection_search_form

--JimParnassushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08958901307538141468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-148647148793397155.post-12107439632335211812015-03-16T13:08:06.327-04:002015-03-16T13:08:06.327-04:00Dear Karena,

Carracci's story shines a light on the fact that many church leaders of the Renaissance age were handed their positions almost as a hereditary right, and that they could be the antithesis of godliness. It was the Farneses of the world who inspired a great reformation.Mark D.
