Hello Mark, Happy New Year to you, also. You always manage to find an ephemeral greeting that is both charming and appropriate.
I'm not sure whether that city has come up before, but Norwalk (in Northern Ohio between Cleveland and Toledo) is a great city to visit. Route 20 runs through its delightfully old-fashioned downtown section, immediately followed by one of the nicest collections of substantial Greek Revival and Victorian Houses.
Your card takes us back in time to 1880, when Norwalk was at the peak of its prosperity, and all those houses and public buildings were busy and immaculate.

I have a book on Neoclassic architecture in the United States, and I will have to look through it to see if there are any houses from Norwalk pictured. I look at the backs of so many of my cards and wonder whether the addresses of those establishments might still even exist.

Dear Mark - your little bird looks very similar our Gold Finches, another delightful piece from your ephemeral collection. I am not a superstitious person, but for some reason I am not too keen on the numbers 2013, and confided as much to H today, and was surprised to learn that he felt the same. We both send you our very best wishes across the Atlantic - I believe that we shall be in the new year about 5 hours before you.
Since your New Year comes so much earlier, I'll toast you and H in about half an hour!
Regarding the number 2013, I would look up all the good things that happened in 1913. Or, I would suggest what numerologists do and add the numbers to get 6, and see what that symbolizes (something positive, I'm sure!). In any event, I feel very good about the upcoming year, so I hope you are pleasantly surprised.
