I'm Back From a Trip to New York City

Sea glass from Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod

I'm back from a week in New York, where I spent some of my time researching a painting project. I stayed at the home of a family friend who is more of a collector than even this blogger! With her permission, I'm sharing a taste of her interests and fascinating apartment.

A small portion of a collection of woven straw baskets from around the world

One of many family hooked rugs

A grouping of dolls mounted on an antique post card rack

Carved animals
I'll share more of my New York trip later in the week. I still have to unpack!

  1. Hello Mark:
How exciting, at least for us, to have spent time in New York - one of our dreams which, we trust, will one day come true. We do so hope that it was not work all of the time.

Your friend's collections are so unusual and beautifully displayed. An eclectic mix which, in our view, makes for interest.

  2. Hi, Jane and Lance - I did indeed pack a lot of fun into the visit, and the research I did was equally fun.

My hostess has an insatiable curiosity, and that shows in her collecting, just a teeny bit of which I'm sharing on this posting!

  4. Hi, Gaye - I love that idea, too! The photograph of the dolls on the antique post card rack makes me think of something Ray and Charles Eames would do.

  5. I was also very taken with the antique post card rack to hold the dolls - that really show originality at work. I have a collection of dolls which is housed behind glass, mainly because I am afraid that they may deteriorate from dust and sunlight. Happened on your blog via Jane & Lance Hattatt. Love your profile 'take' from the portrait by Piero della Francesca's portrait of Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino? We have been to Urbino and done the Piero della Francesca trail.....................Rosemary
